1874: A future sculptor is born Evelyn Longman was born in 1874 on a farm in Winchester, Ohio. From a childhood of extreme poverty and frequent dislocation, she rose to become one of the most highly regarded sculptors of her day. She received every award available to sculptors and was the first woman sculptor accepted as a full member of the National Academy of Design.
